Abstract

An experiment was conducted to determine whether Luck affects dungeon loot drop chance in Vesteria. The experiment was conducted in the Testing Realm using a single character equipped with an item providing exactly 100000% Luck. Each dungeon was completed once under this condition, and the results were tabulated and retroactively compared with typical drop amounts.

The results indicate that Luck does not universally affect all dungeon rewards. Instead, its effect appears to depend on the specific dungeon and mob within. Luck was observed to affect drops from Starshrooms in Shroompocalypse, Ethera, the Captain, and the Mana Scorpentar in Tal Rey’s Tomb. All other dungeons (including all dungeons that featured final chests), showed no drop rate increase while using the significantly increased Luck stat. As a result, unless an individual is farming for Starshroom Caps, Ethera’s loot, Captain’s loot, or the Mana Scorpentar’s loot, there is no reason to use Luck equipment, and your title allocation is better used for Rubee Hero or alternative stat increases instead of XX.

1.0 Introduction

1.1 Luck

Luck is a stat that increases drop chances, and is commonly believed to increase drop chances universally. However this study aims to validate these beliefs.

For this experiment, Luck was artificially increased to 100000% using an item created in the Testing Realm.

Figure 2. Player stats for the experiment

1.2 Dungeons

The experiment was conducted for every dungeon available in Vesteria through the dungeon menu.

  • Shroompocalypse

  • Spider Abyss

  • Boss Rush

  • Ethera

  • Dragon Temple

  • Underwater Vortex

  • Captain’s Quarters

  • Tal Rey’s Tomb

  • The Hive

  • Ratboy’s Nightmare

Within each dungeon, any alternative rewards were also tested. This includes golden mushrooms from the Shroompocalypse enemies, or the Mana Scorpentar in Talrey’s tomb.

2.0 Methodology

Each dungeon was run once with 100000% Luck. Any additional side content was also completed in the dungeon in order to determine a basis for whether Luck affects the dungeons drops.

While no control experiment was conducted with 0% Luck, any content that was affected by Luck gave its entire lootpool due to the nature of an increase of 100000% Luck essentially guaranteeing rewards from the loot pool.

3.0 Results

The following results showcase evidence of the rewards from each dungeon. As mentioned above, any dungeon that recieved a boost from Luck, provided the player with all rewards found in the dungeon.

3.1 Shroompocalypse

Three separate loot sources were examined in Shroompocalypse: the final chest, Golden Mushroom drops from regular enemies, and Starshroom Cap drops from Starshrooms.

The final chest showed no apparent effect from 100000% Luck. Similarly, the Golden Mushroom drops from regular enemies did not appear to be affected by the increased Luck value.

However, the Starshroom Cap drop from Starshrooms did appear to be affected by Luck. The extremely high Luck value resulted in the drop being obtained, suggesting that this particular loot source uses Luck.

3.2 Spider Abyss

The final chest of Spider Abyss was tested under 100000% Luck.

The final chest did not show an apparent increase or guaranteed drop behavior associated with the high Luck value.

Therefore, based on this observation, Luck does not appear to affect the Spider Abyss final chest.

Figure 4. Spider Abyss Rewards

3.3 Boss Rush

Boss Rush was examined by observing the rewards associated with completing all bosses.

The rewards did not appear to produce additional or guaranteed drops as a result of the 100000% Luck condition.

Therefore, Luck does not appear to affect the tested Boss Rush drops.

Figure 5. Boss Rush Rewards

3.4 Ethera

The drops obtained from Ethera appeared to be affected by the 100000% Luck condition. The experiment yielded every possible drop from Ethera.

This indicates that the Ethera loot source is affected by Luck.

Figure 6. Ethera Rewards

3.5 Dragon Temple

Two separate sources were tested in the Dragon Temple: the Dragon Master and the final chest.

Neither source appeared to be affected by the 100000% Luck condition.

The Dragon Master did not show an apparent Luck-dependent change in its drops, and the final chest similarly showed no apparent effect.

Therefore, both tested Dragon Temple sources appear to operate independently of Luck.

Figure 7. Dragon Master and Final Chest Rewards

3.6 Underwater Vortex

The Kraken was tested as the loot source in the Underwater Vortex.

The Kraken’s drops did not appear to be affected by the 100000% Luck condition.

Figure 8. Kraken Rewards

3.7 Captain's Quarters

The Captain was tested as the loot source in Captain’s Quarters.

Unlike several of the other dungeon bosses tested, the Captain’s drops appeared to be affected by the 100000% Luck condition.

The result therefore indicates that Luck does affect the Captain’s loot source.

Figure 9. Captain Rewards

3.8 Tal Rey's Tomb

Two different loot sources were tested in Tal Rey’s Tomb: Tal Rey and the Mana Scorpentar located in the tomb key bonus room.

Tal Rey’s drops did not appear to be affected by 100000% Luck.

The Mana Scorpentar, however, produced a different result. Its drops appeared to be affected by Luck, providing a set of all its drops.

3.9 Ratboy's Nightmare

Circus was the loot source tested in Ratboy’s Nightmare, its drops were not affected by Luck.

The rewards did not appear to produce additional or guaranteed drops as a result of the 100000% Luck.

Figure 11. Circus Rewards

3.10 The Hive

The Queen Rubee was the loot source tested in The Hive, its drops were not affected by Luck.

The rewards did not appear to produce additional or guaranteed drops as a result of the 100000% Luck.

4.0 Conclusion

The experiment tested the effects of 10-000% Luck on different dungeon loot sources in Vesteria.

The results indicate that Luck affects some loot sources while having no apparent effect on others. The affected sources identified in the experiment were:

  • Starshroom Cap from Starshrooms

  • Ethera rewards

  • Captain rewards

  • Mana Scorpentar drops found in the Tal Rey’s tomb key bonus room

The tested sources that did not appear to be affected were:

  • Shroompocalypse final chest

  • Golden Mushroom drops from regular Shroompocalypse enemies

  • Spider Abyss final chest

  • Boss Rush

  • Dragon Master

  • Dragon Temple final chest

  • Kraken

  • Tal Rey

  • Circus

  • Queen Rubee

As a result, unless an individual is farming for Starshroom Caps, Ethera’s loot, Captain’s loot, or the Mana Scorpentar’s loot, there is no reason to use Luck equipment, and your title allocation is better used for Rubee Hero or alternative stat increases instead of XX.

It was an honor to work on this. More special things to come from shack labs!

Interesting. Now can you figure out how to minmax blood plague next?

Can we test if 8% theory is true?

A truly ambitious project with more to come. Stay tuned for more from Shack Labs!

Was stoked to be invited to work on this. More to come soon from Shack Labs!

The definitive post to determine whether Luck effects dungeon loot. Very cool :four_leaf_clover: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
