Ideas for adding housing to Vesteria

Housing has been a heavily requested addition to Vesteria over the years as a way to flesh out RPG elements more and to give players another way to express themselves.

Housing would provide a blank slate for players to decorate however they wish with basic and themed furnitures, wallpapers, achievement trophies, and other decor while also providing spaces for players to hang out. Housing would additionally function as a gold sink in order to slow mushcoin inflation.

What would housing entail?

Housing would be introduced through a questline that would ultimately reward a basic themed apartment in either Nilgarf or one of the three faction maps.

Additional larger, themed houses could be purchased with mushcoin, or premium currency, on other maps throughout the game. Additions to houses would be available for purchase for mushcoin (cellars, attics, additional rooms)

Furniture would be either craftable or purchasable at corresponding NPCs/vendors.

Furniture would include decorative items (things you would find in a house), profession tables which give access to professions (think smelting areas, fish tanks), and decorative trophies from ingame achievements (themed trophies/plaques awarded for defeating hardest difficulties of dungeons, scrolling green tier items, etc)

Houses would have a furniture item limit based on the size of the home, in order to prevent people from cramming their houses full of furniture and causing performance issues.

Monetization

Additional “notable” homes would be available for players to purchase through the premium currency shop. (Nilgarf manse, Port Fidelio lighthouse, Redwood manor, TOL garden home, etc)

Rotating seasonal furniture packs would be available in the premium currency shop, as well as holiday themed furniture pack bundles (halloween, christmas, etc).

Storage chests would also be available for purchase in the premium shop. This would provide additional bank-like storage to players through the housing system, thus helping to alleviate complaints about limited bank space.

If anyone has more ideas, please contribute below as this is just rough outline on what a housing system could look like

I’ve always been a huge proponent for the social aspects of features like these. Whenever I think about housing in these games I see a grand vision and a memory of two major inspiration for these things:

  1. Club Penguin Igloos

  2. Animal Jam Dens

Both of these experiences were core to my childhood and I would love if we could capture some of the magic of these things.

One aspect of these two that I really enjoy was the collectibles.

Imagine if when you killed the spider queen you got a cute spider queen plushie to put on the floor of your house. Imagine if when you killed the Enchiridon you got a bookshelf with its color scheme.

We have infinite possibilities for both monetization and expansion of current ingame systems along with an extension of the gameplay loop, and I think that’s genuinely beautiful.
