Fishing is a profession in Vesteria where you can obtain consumables with powerful buffs for combat, loot, and money drops. Hopefully, this guide finds you as you start your journey leveling up this profession.
How do you start fishing?
You can get started in Mushtown after interacting with Fisherman Nate. He will give you an Old Fishing Rod for free and you can start fishing.
You can also get an Old Fishing Rod from Kevin Jr. in Port Fidelio for free.
Fishing Tips
Let’s be honest, fishing can get very boring and disheartening because the leveling process is actually slow. It really takes time to max out this profession, but I am here to tell you that you actually don’t need to max out this profession to start profiting from it!

Save every
Spotted Red-Belly and
Fresh Fish

Only use Spotted Red Bellies if there is a fish in the area you’re having trouble catching.

Track Bestiary (Found in your Bounty Book) unlocked at Fishing level 10 for extra XP.

Try to complete Daily/Weekly quests (unlocked at level 5 and 20), every bit of XP counts!

(Optional) Using the “Inked” Title - this gives you +1 Reel Time, giving you a little bit more control/handling while fishing.

Most importantly, do not try to hit every sweet spot perfectly! Forcing this may actually cause you to fail more often in the minigame. Only follow the sweet spots that are close to each other.
How to use baits
You must have a Fishing Rod equipped to apply bait. You can drag and drop the bait onto your fishing rod or right-click the fish you want to use as bait, and click “Apply Bait.”
Once you’re done, you can remove bait by right-clicking the fishing rod you are using.
Levelling Guide
Lvl 1 - 15 - Start in Mushtown
Once you get to level 5, speak to Fisherman Nate to upgrade to Fishing Rod, and while fishing in Mushtown, save as many
Spotted Red-Belly as you can - you will use them a lot while fishing. (You may use Shroomy Fish or Fresh Fish to buy the Fishing Rod from Fisherman Nate)
At level 10, you can stay in Mushtown or go to Port Fidelio for better XP.
If you choose to go to Port Fidelio, you will need the Red Bellies you caught earlier to have a better chance of getting Sail Fish for a lot of XP. This fish is hard to catch because of the reel speed, but using Red Bellies will increase the number of sweet spots that appear on the screen, giving you 2 extra chances to hit the necessary number of sweet spots or give you more chances at missing a sweet spot.
At level 15, upgrade to the Advanced Fishing Rod.
You can get this at the shop in Nilgarf (Peter Picklebreath NPC), as you did earlier, you may use Shroomy or Fresh Fish to buy the Advanced Fishing Rod
Lvl 15 - 70 - Fishing in Hourly Surges
A fishing surge gives you a 25% bonus experience while fishing on surging waters, and the location changes every hour. Yes, you’ve guessed right: you will follow the fishing surge and fish in that area for an hour.
At level 30, you will be able to access the shortcut to Forsaken Isle (however, it is currently bugged). You will be able to use this shortcut once you get to lvl 35 and get access to Hook’s Rock. You can access these shortcuts/destinations by interacting with Tess on the ship located on The Pier.
At level 35, once you have enough, you can buy the Golden Hook trinket at the pier for 750 Fresh Fish for a random chance to make a sweet spot glow and give 5x XP (this only multiplies the exp from the sweet spot, not the overall XP from catching the fish).
You will be able to determine the location based on the posters in Nilgarf (beside Peter Picklebreath), in Port Fidelio at the Pier, and in Hook’s Rock behind the Fishing Tank (in that order).
Fishing XP Hack
This method is completely optional and an alternative route that may fry your brain. Instead of following the standard fishing surge after level 15, you can try out this method, which may take you roughly 75 hours to reach Fishing level 70.
- Once you get to fishing level 15 and have obtained an Advanced Fishing Rod, you can fish in Forgotten Spire. Every fish you catch gives 1,000 XP, except Speckled Fish, which gives 500 XP. Do this from level 15 to 35 before you unlock Tess, who will be taking you to Forsaken Isle and Hooks Rock.
You can go to Forsaken Spire from Tree of Life, beside Greybeard, to the left side, and talk to Fitzcarraldo. (Note: You need to have at least 5 Insane SQR wins to access Forgotten Spire)

At level 35, you can now go to Forsaken Isle to do the same and grind from level 35 until level 60. Every fish you catch gives 1,000 XP, except Big Brown Fish, which gives 500 XP.

At level 60, you can start fishing during fishing surges to get conches until level 70.

Why follow surges rather than sticking to this method?
As I said at the beginning, you don’t need to be max level to start profiting from the fishing profession. There are fish that are really valuable because they give insane buffs used in combat, dropped loot, and even help in the mining profession, which you may be leveling up as well at the same time. Fishing during surges multiplies the chances of getting these rare fish, which you may personally use or sell to other players.
The Hive
You may have heard from other players that fishing inside The Hive dungeon is good for XP, which is true. Every fish you catch gives you 2,500 XP. However, because you need to abuse a bug (which got fixed) and you can only fish for ~10 minutes after defeating the boss, you also need to consider the entry fee for doing “Insane” (15 Honey Jar) and the difficulty of the dungeon itself if you’re doing this all on your own.
This used to be a great option, but I personally wouldn’t recommend it for now. I have only included this incase you are wondering why other players are recommending this.
Other Information
Underwater Vortex (Kraken Boss)
At Fishing Level 60, you have a very rare chance of getting a Conch Shell while fishing in surging waters. You can use this item to enter the Underwater Vortex, where you will be fighting the Kraken Boss. It is recommended that you fight this boss with other players.
This boss is guaranteed to drop a Pristine Sunken Key (100% variant) and has a chance to drop the following items:
Bubble Wand,
Sinew Sword,
Sinew Bow,
Sinew Scythe,
Dark Pearl,
Blubberburst Fish,
Cursed Scroll(ATK, DEF, HG),
Holy Scroll, Magnificent Holy Scroll, Starfysh Pet, and Starfysh Face Vanity.
